If you were in the area of along Jackson Street between Danville High School and North Ridge Middle School Monday afternoon, you may have seen three Danville High School Cross Country runners on their usual training route. Only this time, as has become a yearly tradition, they were not in running shorts, but in Halloween costumes handing out candy.
Monday’s participants were Revan Bailey, Dempsey Wyman, and Brady Ohlmiller. Revan Bailey says, he’s getting used to this routine.
AUDIO: I’m a junior. So I’ve done this these last two years. All this is is we’ve dressed up; and we do a little costume run, we give out candy.
Dempsey Wyman says most of the kids they run into are happy to see them.
AUDIO: Just about any kids we see that want candy, of course. We just distribute candy. We go along, we see people, we offer them candy. If they say yes, then we give it to them. If they say no, we keep on going.
Brady Ohlmiller says youngsters may be worried about being approached by strangers, but it’s a little different when they have entertaining costumes, such as his hot dog outfit.
AUDIO: If they ask, we say we’re from DHS; you know, if they’re a little bit hesitant. Some kids just run up to us because we have candy in our hands.
And since the cross country season is actually over for these three DHS runners, they admitted that this is one time they’re not worried about setting personal bests while out on their route.
