DANVILLE — Tuesday (Nov 5th) is the last day the public can submit comments on Illinois Department of Transportation’s proposed removal of the Perrysville Road bridge and South Bowman Avenue changes.
A public meeting on the project in Danville last week drew 59 people, according to IDOT Engineer Kensil Garnett.
Garnett said only one comment was received at the meeting, stating “no roundabout.”
To submit written comments, contact: Kensil Garnett, Regional Engineer, 13473 Illinois 133, P.O. Box 610, Paris, IL 61944-0610.
IDOT officials have been planning for proposed future roadway improvements impacting Perrysville Road and the Bowman and Texas avenues intersection.
The proposal would remove the Perrysville bridge over Interstate 74 and replace the Bowman bridge over Texas Avenue with a roundabout.
The project is part of IDOT’s fiscal 2025-30 multi-year program.
Garnett said it’s tentatively scheduled for a fall 2026 bid letting and construction could begin in spring 2027.
According to IDOT, initial construction costs for removing the Perrysville Road bridge from service would be $5,657,377 compared to $6,480,842 for replacing it and the Bowman bridge.
Annual and related costs for removing versus replacing: $330,142 to remove the bridge from service and $407,148 to replace both. Annual road user costs with the bridge removal are estimated at $59,276, for a total annual cost of $389,418.
Danville Ward 3 Alderwoman Sherry Pickering said she didn’t attend the public meeting and didn’t have any comments to share, from herself or constituents, on the project.
