THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY STATE’S ATTORNEY’S OFFICE RELEASE
On November 4, 2024, Malik Brown (DOB 11/10/1998), formerly of Chicago, Illinois, pleaded guilty to Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, a class 2 felony, and Possession of Stolen Vehicle, a class 4 felony, and was sentenced to 7 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Brown’s term of imprisonment will be followed by 1 year of mandatory supervised release. The People presented evidence to the Court that on December 7, 2023, Rossville Police Department notified Danville Police Department that they were in a vehicle pursuit of a vehicle with two stolen registration plates, headed south towards Danville.
The vehicle eventually came into the City of Danville. Multiple officers with the Danville Police Department joined the pursuit of the vehicle, during which time the suspect vehicle reached speeds of approximately 85 miles per hour on Vermilion Street and ran numerous stop signs. Ultimately, the vehicle drove through the backyard of a residence in Danville, where it drove into a deck and retaining wall before coming to a stop. The driver, later identified as Malik Brown, and the front seat passenger, fled the vehicle and led officers on a foot chase. Brown and the passenger were both apprehended. The vehicle was confirmed stolen. The passenger was subsequently charged and his case is pending.
State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy thanked the Rossville and Danville Police Departments for their coordinated efforts in apprehending Brown.
