In results from election day, incumbent 52nd District State Senator Paul Faraci defeated Republican challenger Jeff Brownfield. Meanwhile, 104th District GOP State Rep Brandun Schweizer scored a victory in the challenge to his seat by Democrat Jarret Clem.
Within Vermilion County alone, Westville’s referendum for an addition to the existing fire station passed with 84% of the “yes” vote. Among contested Vermilion County Board seats, the closest race was within the 8th District. The two winners were Democrat Phearn Butler receiving 573 votes, followed by Jerry Hawker receiving 546 votes. Finishing third was Bryan McDaniels with 436 votes.
In the 6th District, Republicans Mark Steinbaugh and Lon Henderson were the winners, with Democrat William Donahue coming in third. And in the 4th District the winners were Republicans Timothy McFadden and Gary Wright finishing ahead of Democrats Carl Lee Johnson and Germaine Light.
In other races of note, Robin Kelly easily defeated GOP challenger Ashley Ramos in the 2nd U.S. Congressional District, although Vermilion County voters outside of Danville went 75% for Ramos, and Danville Election Commission voters favored Ramos 2,300 to 2,000 votes.
For the statewide advisory referendum calling for taxes on over $1 million income to create a fund for property tax relief, it passed with 61% of the vote statewide, while Vermilion County supported it by a 51%-49% margin.
