GOP State Rep Brandun Schweizer and Democratic State Senator Paul Faraci are two formerly appointed state legislators who have now been elected. And the next stop for both of them is the legislative Veto Session that begins in Springfield next week.
Schweizer became the 104th District state rep after Mike Marron stepped down to lead Vermilion Advantage. Catching up with him the morning after Tuesday’s election and his victory over Jarrett Clem, Schweizer said it feels good for the people to have their say.
AUDIO: I was appointed, and then had to earn the vote and trust of the people, and put in the work. And I mean last night kind of validated that.
Faraci became the 52nd District state senator after the passing of Scott Bennett. Faraci says his win over Jeff Brownfield feels good; but either way, it’s a matter of doing your job.
AUDIO: You know what’s really important, whether you’re appointed or elected, is the work that we do for the people that live in Vermilion and Champaign County. But, to your point, it definitely does feel a little better to actually have an election under my belt.
No one can be sure what issues will come up at the Veto Session. But Schweizer says he definitely has a top priority right now.
AUDIO: I have two bills that I’m waiting to drop to help out first responders. I’ve talked with a lot of volunteer fire service chiefs, and I have some bills that hopefully are going to help out with recruiting and retention.
Faraci says he knows what his first priority is, and it has to do with drinking water.
AUDIO: To better protect the Mahomet Aquifer, the sole source aquifer that provides drinking water to over 500,000 people in the area. There’s no guarantee that we see that, but we are making it a priority from my office.
The Veto Session runs between Tuesday, November 12th and Thursday, November 21st.
