THE FOLLOWING IS A NEWS-GAZETTE STORY BY JENNIFER BAILEY
DANVILLE — Danville School District 118 administration issued another safety alert to parents Thursday night — this time for an elementary school student having a pocketknife.
The message from Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools John Hart stated “This afternoon we were made aware of a student being in possession of a small pocketknife on the bus. We have identified the student, confiscated the knife, and notified the parents of students directly involved. We are conducting a full investigation into the matter. The district takes all threats seriously as your child’s safety is our number one priority.”
On Friday morning, the alert was clarified with another message to school district families.
“To clarify our phone message that was sent out to families last night. The name of the school affected by the bus incident is Southwest Elementary School. The district was not made aware of the incident until school was dismissed yesterday. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Thank You, District 118 Administration.”
