This past Saturday, November 9th, the American Legion Post 210 veterans services in our community, held the Veterans 5k for the 7th year. They have been hosting the 5k since 2017, and this year they have raised over $10,000 with more money coming from their Silent Auction. This year the 1st place female runner was Aleah Potter from Bismarck-Henning High School. She is in 11th grade and runs with the cross country team and track team at her school.
The post race chili lunch featured Vernon Davis, a fourth generation army veteran, he travels around the country as a motivational speaker, comedian, and works with veteran suicide prevention. He talked about celebrating veterans and the “beautiful community” that we have. People of all different ages came together to run in the 5k to support each other and raise money for the American Legion. He said that when people thank him for his service, the first thing he says is, “You were worth it.”
