On Wednesday evening 12/4/24 at around 8:00 p.m., members of the Danville Police Department Problem Oriented Policing Unit stopped a vehicle in the area of N. Gilbert and Roselawn Streets for an Illinois Vehicle Code equipment violation.
During the stop officers made contact with the driver and ultimately used a DPD Police K9. Officers identified the driver as 38-year-old Dometrius L. Jones of Danville. Jones decided to speed away from the traffic stop disobeying the police officers orders. Danville Police Officers then pursued the vehicle to the area of Grant and Center Streets. Jones then ran from the vehicle and was chased on foot by officers. Jones was caught and arrested in that same area.
Danville Police POP unit officers recovered a firearm and suspected controlled substance during the incident. Dometrius L. Jones was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Resisting a Police Officer, Armed Violence, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
The Danville Police Department reminds the public that all subjects who are arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
