THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT RELEASE
The Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a homicide that occurred at approximately 3:30 PM on Sunday, December 8, 2024 in the 1300 block of 2nd Avenue in Danville.
Deputies responded to the scene and located a 38-year-old male with gunshot wounds, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. During the investigation, deputies were able to develop a suspect and suspect vehicle. A Danville Police officer located the suspect vehicle traveling northbound on Bowman Avenue at Winter Avenue, and made a traffic stop on the vehicle at the Dollar General is Bismarck; where 45-year-old Tyrone Watkins of Danville was taken into custody at approximately 3:57 PM and charged with First Degree Murder.
This incident remains under investigation by the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigators, and the Vermilion County Coroner.
