Two new Danville Probationary Police Officers were sworn in by Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr; in the City Council chambers on Wednesday (Dec 18th) morning. Mia Nash and Dustin Weaver both took the oath; and afterwards Chief Christopher Yates told them they will first be trained to be police officers, then they will be trained to be Danville Police Officers. And, despite the fact that the police force is right around the 70 officers mark Yates had always desired, he told the two newcomers that they’ll have some seniority before they know it, as things are always changing. So the effort to find more good people never ends.

AUDIO: We have some separations, from retirement; different separations for different reasons. We’re constantly having to retool, upgrade; and get additional officers. You never reach a spot and stay there. So, we reached 70. And it seems like every time we pick up someone new, and they make it all the way through our training; we’ve automatically gained a new asset.

For Mayor Williams, swearing-in moments like this never get old.
AUDIO: It’s awesome. We’re thankful for our senior officers who have been with us a while. And we’re also blessed to have a young crew. I’m very proud to say that we’ve added 16 officers since I’ve been here, going from 54 positions to 70. And I appreciate their compassion, and their connection that they have with our citizens.
Nash and Weaver will soon be heading to the Illinois State Police Academy for 16 weeks of training.
