In his first Danville Area Community College Board of Trustees meeting since being named interim president to replace the now retired Dr. Stephen Nacco; Oakwood native Dr. Randy Fletcher presided over Thursday (Dec 19th) evening’s session; and told us afterwards all looked good from his seat.
AUDIO: Being back at the Danville Area Community College Board Room brought back a great deal of nostalgia. I’d worked for years with Alice Jacobs as we prepared for meetings, and I think a little of that resonated in how we conducted the meeting today. It’s always a great pleasure to hear our from students, and what they’re doing in the classroom; and the advancements and interventions that are taking place.
And speaking of the students, Thursday’s special student presentation was from three Computer Technology students who had helped designed a game, which is actually designed as a ranch management bovine simulator called Pasture Prodigy; able to be used as an educational training tool for those studying and going into agriculture. Speaking to Professor of Technology Doug Hunter afterwards, we asked him if this designed game could be patented for training use elsewhere. His response? Perhaps, but there’s a lot of work left, and this is still underdeveloped.
Former DACC Board of Trustees chair David Harby poses with board members after receiving official recognition for his 25 years on the board and 11 years as chair; and addresses board as current chair Greg Wolfe looks on.
AUDIO: Well I mean, that’s a possibility. We’ve got a lot of development still to do. What we did in 16 weeks is pretty remarkable. Those kids got into this; and 16 weeks in game development is no time at all. So we’ve got some miles to travel still. All these students, that have worked on this previously, would be in the credits.
Also at the Thursday DACC Board of Trustees meeting David Harby, who recently stepped down as Board of Trustees Chair for Health reasons, received honorary recognition during a special presentation. In addition, by a Board of Trustees signature vote, Lisa Martin was voted in as an interim member to take the spot vacated by David Harby. She told us she’s a Danville resident and DACC graduate, with a Masters in Education from the University of Kansas. She works with disabled individuals at Worksource Enterprises, helping them find employment. She heard the board needed someone, and thought, ‘why not?”

AUDIO: Well, I saw where they were advertising for the board; and I did kind of do that!
Lisa Martin’s interim term will run through the election next April 1st, and she will be on the election ballot.
