THE FOLLOWING IS AN ILGA.GOV RELEASE
DANVILLE, IL… State Representative Brandun Schweizer (R-Danville) is highlighting the recent grant funding that has been awarded to the city of Danville’s Garfield Park. From the Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) Program through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), the city received $600,000 for revitalization measures for the park.
“I am pleased to see that the city of Danville will be receiving funding to help improve and upgrade Garfield Park. As a father of three young children, I know the importance of having an outdoor space like Garfield Park, so I am happy the improvements and implementations may be made to serve other families, thanks to the OSLAD grant award through IDNR,” said Rep. Schweizer.
The OSLAD Program through IDNR was established in 1986 by the Illinois General Assembly. OSLAD, a cost-sharing program between state and local governments, helps communities fund land acquisition and development for parks and outdoor recreation projects. OSLAD has become one of the most popular grants in Illinois. Since its establishment, the grant has awarded $640 million for park projects across the state of Illinois.
The city plans to use the funds for playground equipment upgrades, sidewalks, a pavilion, and other necessary improvements.
Just outside of the 104th District, the Champaign County Forest Preserve District and the Champaign Park District were both awardees of this round’s OSLAD grant. The Champaign County Forest Preserve received $1,125,000 and the Champaign Park District received $600,000.
