THE FOLLOWING IS AN EDGAR COUNTY CORONER’S OFFICE RELEASE
Edgar County Coroner Scott Barrett has released details on a Brocton man that was found dead at his residence on Wednesday evening.
The Edgar County Sheriff’s Department was contacted at 6:02 p.m. on Wednesday, December 25, 2024.
The caller stated that she had been unable to reach her brother by phone all day and was concerned. She requested a wellness check at his residence on East Third Street in Brocton.
The Edgar County Sheriff’s Department responded to the call and determined it was necessary to request the coroner to respond to the residence.
Brian K. Gibbons, 68, of Brocton, was pronounced dead at the scene.
In addition to finding Mr. Gibbons deceased, his German Shepherd dog was also found deceased inside the residence.
The coroner requested the Brocton Fire Department be dispatched to the scene to test for the presence of carbon monoxide.
Testing found the presence of fatal levels of carbon monoxide inside the residence.
