Tuesday ( Jan 14th) evening’s busy meeting schedule for the area will include a committee meeting for the Danville City Council, and a full meeting for the Vermilion County Board. The County Board’s meeting could include the approval of their side of the joint tear down project for Bresee Tower and the Vermilion County Court Annex Building.
The agreement being worked on calls for the city to pay for the Bresee Tower tear down, and the county to pay for the adjacent Vermilion County Court Annex Building tear down. In November the Danville City Council, with the assistance of city consultant the Farnsworth Group, selected a $2.08 million bid from Homrich out of Carleton, Michigan to handle the demolition project. At that time, Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr stated that it was Homrich’s experience in tearing down structures of similar size that definitely helped the city make its decision.
Vermilion County Board Chairman Steve Miller says the $800,000-plus budget adjustment the county needs to make clearing the way for this was recently approved by the Finance Committee, and he looks for it to receive full County Board approval so the long awaited project can get going.
AUDIO: I believe we anticipate approving the budget amendment for $880,000. I think it needs to be done very promptly; and I’m very much in favor of the demolition of the annex. And we’re going to be good partners with the city.
Both the City Council committee meeting and full Vermilion County Board meeting will begin Tuesday evening at 6 PM.
