Upcoming events at Danville Public Library – January 26 – February 1, 2025
Diversify Your Reading Challenge: In a reading rut? Expand your reading horizons by completing one or all of our challenges! Finish a challenge to earn a custom poster! This challenge is for teens and adults, ages 13 and up. August 1, 2024 – August 1, 2025
Rubber Ducky Readers: Join this fun Beanstack Challenge! For every 10 books read, the child will get a rubber duck, every 100 books equal a book, a sticker and a certificate, 1000 books equal a goody bag filled with a book, a sticker, a completion certificate, a stuffed animal, a blow-up rubber duck, etc. This challenge is for ages 0-6.
Winter Reading Program: Squishing Through the Snow: Join us for our Squishing Through the Snow Winter Reading Program, running from January 6th to February 17th, 2025! Kids, Tweens, Teens, and Adults can register starting December 30th and earn fun prizes by logging their reading days on the Beanstack app.
January 27: Teen Zone Gaming Bash. A gaming tournament for teens! Battle it out in Super Smash Bros or Mario Kart. 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm in the Teen Zone. Ages 13-19.
January 28: Stuffed Animal Sleepover. Drop off your favorite stuffed animal at the Children’s Library on Tuesday, January 28th, between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. for a fun-filled sleepover at the library! Your stuffed friend will stay the night and get up to all sorts of exciting adventures, and the next day, January 29th, you can pick them up after 3:00 p.m. along with a special picture book that captures all their mischievous antics from the night before!
January 28: Tween It! Tuesdays. Fun programs for tweens each Tuesday. This week: Nailed it! Inspired by the Netflix TV series, tweens will be presented with a craft and supplies, but no instructions! 4:30 pm in the Program Room (Former Bookstore). Ages 8-12.
January 28: Universal Yums. Once a month teens will have the chance to try snacks from a different country! Each month they will get to try snacks from different countries, play trivia and do activities related to that country. This month’s box will feature items from Spain. 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm in Teen Zone. Ages 13-19.
January 28: Wee Wigglers Story Time. Join us for action rhymes, stories, and songs for children ages 5 and under. Tuesdays at 10:00 am in the Program Room (Former Bookstore).
January 29: Board Game Day. Stop by the Teen Zone on the 4th Wednesday of every month to play board/card games and eat snacks! 3-7PM in the Teen Zone. Ages 13-19.
January 29: Rainbow Playgroup. Socialization, play and STEAM activities for toddlers. 10 AM- 11 AM. Howard Rutan Meeting Room
January 29: Teen Writing Club. Join us every Wednesday for Teen Writing Club! Journals and pens will be provided for our teen writers, along with writing prompts. 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm in the YA area. Ages 13-19.
January 29: Wordy Wednesdays. Puzzle lovers, mark your calendars! Every Wednesday, head on up to the 2nd floor Reference Desk for a variety of word puzzles. Available anytime during our regular business hours.
January 30: Anything Tech for Teens. Introducing teens to some of the library’s cool technology, including 3D Printing, 3D Pens, Sphero Balls, Cricut, and a Flight Simulator. Thursdays at 3:00 pm in the Teen Zone. Ages 13-19.
January 30: Crafty Thursday. Stop by the Teen Zone to paint your own coaster! Thursday from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm in the Teen Zone. Ages 13-19.
January 30: Theatre Thursday. My, My, Here We Go Again, come Feel The Beat of the Tambourine and sing along! Take A Chance on DPL and you’ll be saying Thank You for the Music! Join a Sing-Along viewing of a favorite movie from our collection. *Titles can only be shared within the library due to licensing. 4:30 pm – 6:45 pm in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room.
February 1: Miraculous Ladybug & Friends. Join us for story time, a snack, and a craft while meeting the Miraculous Ladybug and her friends! Miraculous Ladybug, Cat Noir, Queen Bee and Rena Rouge! 1PM-2PM in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room.
February 1: Publishing 101. Local author M.I.H. McCool is offering a course on the basics of publishing, drawing from her 20+ years of experience. The course covers manuscript preparation, author resources, and the distinctions between self-publishing and traditional publishing. Marketing strategies will also be addressed. The classes are open to everyone, from those simply curious about publishing to aspiring authors needing guidance. The course will meet monthly on the first Saturday at 1:00 PM in the 2nd Floor Conference Room with our Writers’ Group following at 2:00 PM.
February 1: Sensory and Bilingual Story Adventures. A unique programming experience combining bilingual storytelling with sensory-friendly activities, designed to engage children of all abilities. This inclusive program creates a welcoming space where stories come to life through interactive elements, fostering language development and sensory exploration in a fun and supportive environment. Saturdays at 11 a.m. in the Children’s Department.
Adult Craft: Stop by the Reference Desk on the 2nd floor for a Diamond Art take-and-make craft! While supplies last.
Coloring Contest for all ages: Color a picture and win a prize. Return entries by the end of the month. Entries will be displayed in the Children’s Room. Winners will be notified. Weekly Crafts. Drop by for fun crafts in the children’s department. Available Monday through Thursday from 8 am-6:30 pm and Fri-Sat 8 am-4 pm. New craft each week! This week: 3-D Pom-Pom Penguin
