URBANA — A suspect has been located and captured in the traffic crash which led to two deaths near Carle Foundation Hospital on Sunday.
United States Marshals in Dallas, Texas, arrested 27-year-old Juan Jahaziel Saenz-Suarez today around 9:26 a.m.
He is a Mexican national who was living in Urbana and had been identified through the Urbana Police Department’s investigation as the owner and driver of the red Mitsubishi Outlander that rear-ended a Honda Civic.
The crash led to the deaths of two passengers in the Civic, 21-year-old Chloe Polzin of Deerfield and Katherine J. Abraham of Glenview. Two other passengers were injured.
The Civic had been slowing or stopped at the traffic signal on University Avenue at Coler Avenue when the Mitsubishi hit it, Urbana police said.
A Champaign County arrest warrant charges Saenz-Suarez with reckless homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal injury crash.
U.S. Marshals located the suspect in Milford, Texas, about an hour south of Dallas, as he was riding an El Expreso bus headed for Matamoros, Mexico.
