11:30 a.m. update:
Danville police have issued a correction stating that Gavin X. Jeffries was found to not be a convicted felon following his arrest.
“Through working with the state’s attorney’s office, it was discovered that Jeffries would not be considered to be a convicted felon due to previous plea agreements,” said Deputy Chief Terry McCord.
Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon; Driving While License Revoked
On Wednesday evening, around 4:45 p.m., members of the Danville Police Department Community Housing Unit stopped a vehicle in the area of Main Street and Bowman Avenue for an equipment violation
Officers identified the driver of the vehicle as 22-year-old Deonte J Anderson of Rock Island, IL, and the passenger as 22-year-old Gavin X Jeffries of Ocala FL. Through the officer’s investigation, Anderson was found to be a convicted felon.
The driver, Deonte Anderson, has a revoked Illinois Driver’s License and was arrested. Further investigation with the assistance of a Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department K9 unit led officers to find illegal cannabis and a firearm along with an illegally loaded magazine.
Deonte Anderson and Gavin Jeffries were transported to the Public Safety Building. Anderson was booked on charges of Driving While License Revoked and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon. Gavin Jeffries was booked on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon.
The Danville Police Department reminds the public that all subjects arrested are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon Driving While License Suspended Wanted on a Warrant
On Wednesday evening around 9:00 p.m., members of the Danville Police Department Problem Oriented Policing Unit stopped a vehicle on Interstate 74 at the 217-mile marker for a traffic violation.
Officers made contact with the driver, who was identified as 25-year-old Curtis E. Compton of Kingman, IN. Officers learned Compton has a suspended driver’s license and a warrant for his arrest out of Indiana for drug charges. While conducting further investigation, the POP unit officers found a loaded firearm on Compton. Due to the fact Compton does not have the necessary license to possess and carry a firearm in Illinois, he was charged for that violation.
Officers arrested Compton and took him to the Public Safety Building, where he was booked on charges of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Wanted on a Warrant, and Driving While License suspended.
