DANVILLE — Pastor Thomas Miller said men don’t often seek the help they need.
Whether it’s marriage issues, problems with their children, financial or other history struggles, men often keep it inside and don’t look to God, Miller said.
A men’s meeting at Miller’s New Life Church of Faith, 1419 N. Bowman Ave., is seeking to attract at least 1,000 men to “come together and to absolutely say to God, ‘we need your help,'” Miller said.
The event begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and is called “Adam, Where are You? It’s Time to Take Your Righteous Place.”
Miller said, “Men are very proud and don’t share with too many people. We want to create an atmosphere where everybody feels comfortable. We all need help. Most of us do not share that.”
He said there are so many suffering men, and statistics show that when a woman will line up with God, 28 percent of her family follows her. But when a man lines up with God, 93 percent of his family follows him.
He said they want to try to encourage these men to put all their cares in God.
“We’re all trying to make it,” Miller said. There’s not enough embracing of men, he added.
For Saturday’s event, men are expected to come from Vermilion County and this area, including Champaign, Chicago, Springfield and Peoria, and from out of state, including from Mississippi, Ohio and Wisconsin.
Miller said they are looking forward to having the room filled with young and old, Black and White men.
He added that men have a lot of commitments.
Miller, 69, said he was “young and dumb” when he got married 50 years ago, and it was more than 40 years ago when he said he’s sorry and would try to serve better and serve God. It’s made all the difference in his marriage and life.
