For the fifth straight month, reported unemployment has dropped in Vermilion County. The county’s numbers show the unemployment rate falling from 5.9% in November to 5.4% in December. Vermilion County’s rate was also at 5.4% in December of 2023.
For the City of Danville, the unemployment rate also had another positive change. Danville’s rate fell from 7.3% in November to 6.4% in December. Danville’s rate also stood at 6.4% in December of 2023.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment was stable when comparing December of 2023 to December of 2024.
Looking at specific categories, Government jobs were up by 300; while Private Education and Health Services Jobs, along with Financial Activities jobs, were both up by 100.
Those increases were countered by a drop of 500 in Manufacturing jobs.
There were no changes from one year ago in Leisure and Hospitality, Mining and Construction, Professional and Business Services, Retail Trade, Wholesale Trade, Transportation-Warehousing-Utilities, as well as in the Other Services category.
