Diversify Your Reading Challenge: In a reading rut? Expand your reading horizons by completing one or all of our challenges! Finish a challenge to earn a custom poster! This challenge is for teens and adults, ages 13 and up. August 1, 2024 – August 1, 2025
Oscar Buzz Reading Challenge: Join our Beanstack Challenge featuring nine books whose film adaptations are nominated for Oscars! Intended for Adults (19+).

Rubber Ducky Readers: Join this fun Beanstack Challenge! For every 10 books read, the child will get a rubber duck, every 100 books equal a book, a sticker and a certificate, 1000 books equal a goody bag filled with a book, a sticker, a completion certificate, a stuffed animal, a blow-up rubber duck, etc. This challenge is for ages 0-6.
Winter Reading Program: Squishing Through the Snow: Join us for our Squishing Through the Snow Winter Reading Program, running from January 6th to February 17th, 2025! Kids, Tweens, Teens, and Adults can register starting December 30th and earn fun prizes by logging their reading days on the Beanstack app.
February 17: Children’s Wonder Garden Club. Gardening event for children and families. 4:30 PM in the Program Room This program is made possible through a partnership with the University of Illinois Extension Office. This month, we will be learning about trees!
February 17: Tiny Canvas Club: Pop Art with Lincoln. Join us for Tiny Canvas Club, where children can dive into the world of Pop Art by creating colorful portraits of Abraham Lincoln! In this fun workshop, young artists will learn about the Pop Art movement and use bold colors, patterns, and creative techniques to bring this iconic figure to life on a small canvas. It’s a perfect blend of art and history, and a great way for kids to express their creativity! Space is limited, so sign up online! 1pm to 2pm in the Program Room. Ages 5-12.
February 18: Monthly Teen Party: Come hang out for our teen monthly party! Have some snacks and play games! 4:00 pm in the Teen Zone.
February 18: Tween It! Tuesdays. Fun programs for tweens each Tuesday. This week: BINGO! Come play Bingo and win prizes. 4:30 pm in the Program Room. Ages 8-12.
February 18: Vermilion County Master Gardeners. Join Vermilion County Master Gardeners for a seminar at Danville Public Library at 6 p.m. in the 1st Floor Meeting Room. Call 217-442-8615 for more information.
February 18: Wee Wigglers Story Time. Join us for action rhymes, stories, and songs for children ages 5 and under—Tuesdays at 10:00 am in the Program Room.
February 19: NAMI Mental Health Community Education Program. Join NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) East Central IL to learn about NAMI’s support, advocacy, and resources. In-person attendees get materials, snacks, and giveaways. This event will also be available online! 4 PM to 5:30 PM in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room.
February 19: Rainbow Playgroup. Socialization, play and STEAM activities for toddlers. 10 AM- 11 AM. Program Room.
February 19: Teen Writing Club. Join us every Wednesday for Teen Writing Club! Journals and pens will be provided for our teen writers, along with writing prompts. 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm in the YA area.
February 19: Wordy Wednesdays. Puzzle lovers, mark your calendars! Every Wednesday, head on up to the 2nd floor Reference Desk for a variety of word puzzles. Available anytime during our regular business hours.
February 20: Anything Tech for Teens. Introducing teens to some of the library’s cool technology, including 3D Printing, 3D Pens, Sphero Balls, Cricut, and a Flight Simulator. Thursdays at 3:00 pm in the Teen Zone.
February 20: Crafty Thursday. Stop by the Teen Zone for 3D Pen Crafting! This week: Sew Mini Treats! Thursdays from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm in the Teen Zone.
February 20: Soups and Stews – U of I Extension. Join Illinois Extension to learn more about how soup is nutritious, affordable, and a comforting way to enjoy a meal. You’ll even get to sample a soup! Handouts and recipes will be provided to recreate these delicious soups at home. Please register by going to go.illinois.edu/soupsdanville by February 19th. 1:30-2:30pm in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room.
February 22: Read with a Therapy Dog. Celebrate “Love Your Pet Day” by reading with therapy dogs at the Danville Public Library! Reading is one of the best therapies out there, and now you can share your love of reading with our friendly therapy dogs! 11:00am-1:00pm in the Children’s Department.
February 22: Sensory and Bilingual Story Adventures. A unique programming experience combining bilingual storytelling with sensory-friendly activities, designed to engage children of all abilities. This inclusive program creates a welcoming space where stories come to life through interactive elements, fostering language development and sensory exploration in a fun and supportive environment. Saturdays at 11 a.m. in the Children’s Department.
Adult Craft: Stop by the Reference Desk on the 2nd floor for a Macrame Heart take-and-make craft! While supplies last.
Coloring Contest for all ages: Color a picture and win a prize. Return entries by the end of the month. Entries will be displayed in the Children’s Room. Winners will be notified. Prom Collection Drive. We’re excited to announce our Prom Collection Drive! Donate menswear, dresses, shoes, purses, and jewelry now through Friday, March 21st to help make prom dreams come true for students. And save the date for our Free Prom Shopping Event on Saturday, March 22nd, where all donated items will be available free-of-charge for students. Watch for more information!
