Another bankrupt national retailer is downsizing, this time closing longtime stores in Champaign, Danville and Mattoon.
In a blow to local crafters, Jo-Ann Fabrics revealed in a court filing that it would close 533 of its roughly 850 U.S. locations, including stores at 722 W. Town Center Blvd. in Champaign and in Danville’s Village Mall and Mattoon’s Cross County Mall.
They’re among 26 Illinois locations set to close as the company looks to “right-size its footprint.”
“This was a very difficult decision to make, given the major impact we know it will have on our team members, our customers and all of the communities we serve,” the company said in an announcement.
If the bankruptcy court filing is approved, the company expects going-out-of-business sales to begin at the stores set for closing on Saturday, and they could continue for several months.
