Governor JB Pritzker Wednesday laid out an FY26 proposed budget that is the largest budget proposal in state history. The Governor’s proposed budget is $55.235 billion, a nearly $2 billion increase compared to the FY25 enacted budget – a 3.7% increase.
State legislators must negotiate the final details of the fiscal year 2026 budget – which begins on July 1. The general assembly is scheduled to end on the last day of May, according to the general assembly’s calendar.
State Representative Brandun Schweizer (R-Danville) said while some of the proposals the governor discussed the first half of his speech were good, he was disappointed with the way it spiraled out of control with political rhetoric later on.
Pritzker referred to Nazis 6 times in his speech during his criticism of the Trump administration.
