ABOVE: Seven Point of Illinois CEO Brad Zerman addresses Danville City Council at their February 18th meeting.
After the February 18th Danville City Council meeting, it appeared that the Seven Point of Illinois cannabis dispensary’s hopes for a consumption lounge were gone. But in the words of a certain college football announcer (Lee Corso), “No so fast, my friend.” That night, the vote was 7-5 in favor of the lounge, but city rules agreed to within the last year require that a majority of ALL ELECTED ALDERMEN, eight of 14, would have been needed.
Aldermen Mike O’Kane and Heidi Wilson were absent that night, and Alderman Jon Cooper made a motion that the vote be tabled to a future meeting. That also came up one vote short of the eight needed, as Seven Point CEO Brad Zerman recalls.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: There were two supporters of our proposed lounge that were absent from the meeting, unexpectedly. People get sick; and have to go out of town for their jobs and stuff. So, it really seemed super unfair; and they just pushed it through.

But Zerman says the city rules handbook has a provision that says if a proposal wins a vote but comes up short of the required majority, and there are alderman absences; then at the next full council meeting a request can be made, by two of the aldermen who voted “yes,” to have a new vote.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: Only at the next meeting can it be done. So, what’s happened is, Alderman Cooper submitted a request to the city clerk to put this on the agenda for a reconsideration vote on Tuesday.
Zerman says a total of three Aldermen signed Alderman Jon Cooper’s letter of request. CIMG has contacted the Danville Mayor’s Office to confirm that the March 4th Danville City Council meeting will include another vote on the Seven Point consumption lounge. The Tuesday, March 4th Danville City Council meeting will begin at 6 PM.
