THE FOLLOWING RELEASE IS FROM THE VERMILION COUNTY CORONER’S OFFICE
Danville, IL- Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden stated that a house fire on North Griffin Street last evening, March 2, 2025 in Danville claimed the life of a 67 year old woman identified as Theresa L. Pundt of Danville. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Danville Fire Department, Illinois State Fire Marshall’s Office and the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy is scheduled for later today.

Description of Structure/Property: 1-Story, Wood Framed Home (Occupied)
Alarm Location/Address: 407 N Griffin Street
Description of Incident:
The Danville Fire Department was called to the 400 Blk of N Griffin Street at 7:06 PM on Sunday, March 2, 2025 for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, fire crews discovered a working fire within the residence. Fire crews immediately initiated a fire attack and commenced a search of the home.
Sadly, one individual was found deceased inside the structure.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Danville Fire Department, who is being assisted by the State Fire Marshals office. The Vermilion County Coroner’s office is also investigating.
The name of the victim and cause of death are not being released until an autopsy can be performed and family is given time to be notified.
The Danville Fire Department extends its deepest condolences to the families and friends of those affected by this tragedy.
