THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT RELEASE
Danville, IL – The Vermilion County Health Department (VCHD) is excited to announce the launch of its Residential Sharps Collection Program, providing residents with a free and safe way to dispose of sharps properly. This program is made possible through the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s Residential Sharps Collection Program grant.
“We receive many calls from residents asking how to properly dispose of sharps,” said Jana Messmore, Director of Environmental Health. “Improper disposal can lead to
accidental needlesticks or injuries to sanitation workers. We are thrilled to offer this much needed service to our community.”
How It Works
A sharps collection kiosk is now available outside the front doors of the Vermilion County Health Department. Residents can drop off the following items:
Needles
Syringes
Connection needles
Lancets
Infusion sets
EpiPens
Insulin pens
Important Disposal Guidelines:
Loose sharps will NOT be accepted.
All sharps must be in a puncture-resistant, non-see-through, capped container (such as an empty laundry detergent or bleach bottle).
Do NOT use plastic bags, water bottles, milk containers, soda cans, or glass bottles.VCHD also has a limited supply of quart-sized single-use sharps containers available
for residents to take home, fill up, and return to the kiosk.
