Nearly $4-million dollars in state funding for local road and bridge projects is headed to Vermillion and Parke Counties in Indiana.
State Representative Tim Yocum of Clinton says the money is from Indiana’s Community Crossings Matching Grant Program. Yocum says to qualify for funding, small municipalities must provide a 25 percent match in local funds, while larger communities must provide a 50 percent match.
Area grant recipients include Parke and Vermillion County (Indiana) which will each receive $1.5 million dollars. Also, Clinton is getting just over $900-thousand dollars, and Universal, Indiana will receive over $56-thousand dollars.
“Maintaining and improving our roads is critical to the safety and success of our local counties and cities,’’ said Representative Yocum. “These grants provide strong foundations for making lasting improvements that benefit all Hoosiers.”
Indiana was recently rated the best state in the nation for overall road conditions by Consumer Affairs, noting the state’s low rate of traffic fatalities and quality of roads.
