The Citizens Police Academy is a program designed to build a better understanding between citizens and the police through education and positive interaction. The Academy offers classes on a variety of law enforcement topics over an nine week period. The classes meet once a week from 6 PM– 9 PM on Thursday evenings.
Classes are held at the Danville Police Training Center, located at 1155 E Voorhees St in Danville. Classes are held in a relaxed atmosphere and no tests are given. The purpose of the classes are to inform you about your police department. There are no costs or fees to attend the academy. We hope to see you there!
What goes on at the Academy?
Classes are taught by members of the Danville Police Department or other criminal justice professionals.

A tour of the Vermilion County Jail will be hosted by the Sheriff’s Department. Each adult participant will also be provided an opportunity to ride on patrol with an on-duty Danville Police Officer. If you would like to attend, please complete the application on the back side of this brochure and return it to the Danville Police Department at 2 East South Street or email (jlong@danvillepd.org) by 04/10/25. Please read and sign the waiver of liability on the next page.
Citizens Police Academy Waiver of Liability
I am requesting that the City of Danville Illinois Police Department allow me to participate in the Citizens Police Academy. I am fully aware of the inherent risks associated with my participation in the Citizens Police Academy, which include but are not limited to bodily injury, physical or emotional disability, death and property damage. Understanding these risks, it is still my decision to participate in the Citizens Police Academy and in consideration of the City of Danville allowing me to participate, I assume full responsibility for such risks. I agree that neither I nor my legal representatives, heirs, and assigns, will hold the City, its officials, or agents responsible for any injuries, disabilities, physical and mental diseases, death, property damage or losses and expenses of any nature whatsoever that I may sustain as a result of my participation in the Citizens Police Academy.
I further agree to indemnify, hold harmless, and to assume the defense of the City, its officers, employees and agents, from all claims and expenses of any nature whatsoever, including the cost of defending such claims which may accrue against, be charged to, or recovered from or sought to be recovered from the City, its officials, employees, and agents, as a result of my participation in the Citizens Police Academy.
I understand that this agreement is intended to be as broad and inclusive as permitted by the laws of the state of Illinois, and that if any portion thereof is held invalid, it is agreed that the balance shall not, withstanding, continue in full force and effect.
I further understand that permission to participate in the Citizens Police Academy is granted subject to the rules and regulations of the Police Department and such permission may be restricted or revoked entirely by the Police Department at its sole discretion.
