It’s a busy spring season over at the Vermilion County Animal Shelter. Shelter Director Kasey Snyder says they have taken in a major amount of strays and owner-surrenders over the past couple weeks. And although it’s much better for owners who can no longer care for their pets to take them to the shelter rather than abandoning them; now the shelter needs help from you.
Donations of pet food and supplies are always welcome; as well as those interested in being foster care homes. But also, would you like to adopt one of these dogs or cats? Adoption fees are currently $20 for cats, $50 for dogs, and $150 for puppies. And as Snyder points out, to speed things up a bit, they are offering same day adoption services.

If you have animals at home already; you’ll want to bring their proof of rabies, that they’re current on rabies. And then it’ll take a little bit to process your application while you’re here. And then as soon as we’re done with that, you can take your animal home the same day.

Meanwhile, Snyder says talks with the County Board, as well as the City of Danville, are continuing on figuring out the shelter’s future. As we’ve previously mentioned, one possibility being considered is a partial new facility at the current Catlin-Tilton Road location, with perhaps a second location on the northern side of Danville.
