It’s now more than 30 years of hosting championship collegiate basketball at Danville Area Community College, and Director of the NJCAA Division II Mens Basketball Host Committee Brian Hensgen says adjustments made every year to make it appear to be a seemless transition for visiting teams is a huge key to success. Talking this week with Scott Eisenhauer during halftime of one of the game broadcasts, Hensgen said last year’s change to 20 teams and six days of basketball was a major change that needed more adjustments this year. And the effort is not just for those visiting, but also for those watching on the NJCAA network.

It’s a total team effort from our media crew; our volunteers. It’s all one of those things that really come together as a whole to make this tournament what it is. And we really appreciate everyone’s assistance while we do this.
Hensgen says when a team finds out they are coming to Danville, there’s a lot to take care of. But efforts of the traveling teams, the host team in Danville, and the NJCAA; simply come together every year.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: They have a week, and it’s a short turnaround time. And it’s been an incredible response in how they get their rosters to us, their travel parties; all the things that go into it. So we can help our partners, and all of our teams, prepare for what this production is.
And more than anything every year, Hensgen says we are reminded that Danville is able to do this because of a LOCAL TEAM EFFORT; from the DACC staff and local media, to the volunteers and sponsors.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: But it is only possible; with obviously our community volunteers; but it is essential to have our sponsors return year after year to support this event. Because without them it wouldn’t be possible to be able to produce what we do. So we certainly thank all of our incredible sponsors that are within our community, and within our region.
The tournament, for now, is scheduled to continue in Danville through 2028.
