DANVILLE — Contested Danville City Council aldermen races are in Wards 1, 3 and 7 for the April 1 Consolidated Election.
Seeking election: incumbent Robert Williams and Jaleel M. Jones in Ward 1; incumbent Carolyn Wands in Ward 2; incumbent Heidi Wilson and Thomas Hightower in Ward 3; incumbent Tricia Teague in Ward 4; incumbent Mike Puhr in Ward 5; incumbent Jim Poshard in Ward 6; and newcomers Doug Ahrens and Barry Johnson in Ward 7. Incumbent Alderman Darren York is moving out of Ward 7 and not seeking re-election.
Robert Williams, 82, who lives on Collett Street, is married to Wilma and they have four adult children, in addition to grandchildren and a great grandchild. Education: Danville High School; associate degree from Danville Junior College; attended Southern Illinois University; joined Army. He’s retired from the VA Medical Center, working in Evansville, Ind., and retired again from Quaker Oats. He’s served six years as alderman, appointed first and then elected. He’s also been past commander of the Bradley Mayberry Amercian Legion Post 736, past master of the Masonic Lodge 31 in Danville and is involved with Disabled American Veterans.
Jaleel Maurice Jones, 29, of Walnut Street, is a father to three. Education: high school graduate and one year of college. He’s employed by Seven Point Dispensary, and is involved with the NAACP.
