DANVILLE — It had numerous obstacles, but the Danville Men’s Crisis Center opens at 5 p.m. today at 213 N. Bowman Ave., the former Dayspring Women’s and Children’s Shelter.
Danville Rescue Board President Michael Ewing said 24 beds will be available to unhoused men, including designated rooms for single fathers with children and transgender men.
Ewing isn’t sure how many the shelter will see the first few nights.
Danville Rescue has continued to receive phone calls about people needing shelter, but the weather has gotten a little better. It’s still kind of cold, Ewing said.
Ewing said they want to be there for people in need.
“It just depends on the person. Some don’t want that hand, but we’re going to offer it,” he said.
Intake will start at 5 p.m., with house volunteers, and the bedrooms for overnight stays are available on a first come first served basis, Ewing said. There will be a no-tolerance policy to offer a safe space free of violence, alcohol and drugs.
