Voting is expected to be heavier in some areas of the county today than others because of races that are on the ballot. In Westville, Georgetown, and Hoopeston, for example, voters are deciding who will serve as mayor along with city council or village board members. In Westville there will be a new mayor elected as long-time mayor Mike Weese decided not to seek another term. Westville voters are choosing today between Troy Strebin, Darin Troglia, and Nick Pierce for mayor.
There are seven candidates vying for three seats on the Westville, Oakwood and Rossville Village Boards. And in Danville, half of the fourteen city council seats are up for grabs today. In most of the wards the current aldermen are running without any oppostion today. In Ward 1 Alderman Robert Williams is being challenged by Jaleel Jones.
In Ward 3 Heidi Wilson faces Thomas Hightower in today’s voting. And in Ward 7, James “Doug” Ahrens is running against Barry Johnson.
Also in Danville, voters are electing District 118 School Board and Danville Area Community College Board members. There are five candidates running for two seats on the Community College Board. They are Lisa Martin, Greegory Wolfe, Aaron Biggs, Laura Williams, and Amanda Krabbe.
In the Consolidated Election today voters are also electing township leaders, public library district trustees, Regional Board of Education trustees, and fire protection district trustees.
The polls are open until 7 o’clock this evening.
