Numbers released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security are showing an improvement in the unemployment figures when comparing January to February, as well as looking better than one year ago.
Unemployment in Vermilion County showed a drop from 6.4% in January to 5.8% in February. Vermilion County’s rate came in at 6.2% in February of 2024.
For the City of Danville, unemployment fell from 7.0% in January to 6.3% in February. Danville stood at 7.0% back in February of 2024.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment shows a drop of 575 jobs from February of 2024 to February of 2025; with the current total of non-farm jobs coming in at 25,250.
In looking at specific categories, employment increased in Private Education – Health Services by 350 jobs, and in Leisure – Hospitality by 125.
Meanwhile, there were drops of 350 jobs in Trade-Transportation-Utilities, 300 in Manufacturing, 175 in Government, 150 in Professional – Business Services, 125 in Construction, and 25 in Information.
Payrolls were unchanged in Other Services and Natural Resources – Mining.
