Danville, April 3, 2025–
The City of Danville would like to inform the public that external demolitions on the northwest corner of Vermilion and Main Streets (Bresee Tower and the Vermilion County Courthouse Annex) will begin Monday, April 7, 2025, with Phase 1 being the demolition of the Annex building.
On Monday and Tuesday, April 7-8, large demolition equipment will be unloaded at the Kresge Lot. On those days, on-street parking on the west side of Vermilion Street between Main Street and the first crosswalk on the north side of the Kresge Lot will be closed. There also may be intermittent traffic lane closures of Vermilion Street.
Beginning Wednesday, April 9, 2025, ALL traffic lanes, parking spots, and sidewalks from the south side of the Courthouse Annex on Vermilion Street to the first crosswalk on the north side of the Kresge Lot will be closed to both motorists and pedestrians due to the demolition of the Annex building. This closure is expected to last up to two (2) weeks. This means there will be NO access to the Rita B. Garman Vermilion County Courthouse on Vermilion Street from the north.
Downtown Demolition Phase 1 Road Closure Map
During this road closure, the Courthouse will remain open and function normally, and all cases will be heard as scheduled. Anyone visiting the Courthouse must approach from the south or east sides of the building as these will be the only accesses to the Courthouse’s entrance. Courthouse visitors with mobility impairments may be dropped off in the main entrance parking lot on the northeast corner of the intersection of Vermilion and Main Streets. But it should be noted that this is a drop-off site for persons with mobility issues only and is not available for short or long-term parking. During this closure, it is suggested that all Courthouse visitors adjust their arrival times to accommodate the expected delays and congestion.
The City of Danville invites visitors of all other downtown shops and businesses to access Vermilion Street from the north. Access to all downtown businesses is planned to remain open through the entirety of this project.
Please see the attached “Downtown Demolition Phase 1 Road Closure Map” for closure details. Further communications and updates regarding changes in closures and/or future closures will be publicized as the demolition proceeds. The City of Danville thanks Vermilion County Courthouse employees and patrons, visitors, residents, and business owners in the downtown area for their patience as the demolition project continues.
