Danville Police say they have made an arrest in a local homicide investigation. Deputy Chief Terry McCord said Danville Police have arrested 44-year-old Shane A. May on charges of first-degree murder in connection with a body found earlier in the day around noon. (April 7, 2025).
The victim has been identified by the Vermilion County Coroner as 41-year-old Monty E. Peplow of Danville.
Deputy Chief McCord says Danville Police responded to an address in the 700 block of Sherman Street after a call to the 9-1-1 County Communications Center. The caller stated a person had been found dead in a residence.
Upon arrival officers located the body and immediately began a crime scene investigation. The Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit assisted Danville Police. The Vermilion County State’s Attorney’s Office determined after studying the evidence and information from several community members, probable cause was developed to arrest May for the murder of Monty Peplow. May is being held at the Vermilion County Public Safety Building awaiting a hearing on his charges. He was arrested only about eight hours after Peplow’s body was discovered.
The Danville Police Department reminds the public that all subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
