This year, they expanded the SKILLS USA Career Fair in the Danville High School Fieldhouse to sophomores, as well as juniors and seniors. Lots of local businesses and industry were there Thursday morning (April 10th) to talk with students about skills they need for jobs available right in Danville and Vermilion County.
But in addition to that, vendors representing colleges and the military were there as well. As Industrial Technology teacher Joe Wernert pointed out, the whole idea is getting students serious about their futures. And no matter which way they go, Career and Technical Education (CTE) is likely to be connected somehow.

AUDIO: About 60 some odd percent of students that even go to four year colleges are still involved in some level of CTE course. So this fair is really meant to encompass everyone’s interests. Our goal is to create pathways for the kids to sort of figure out: What classes do I need to take? Where do I need to go? What sort of skills do I need to succeed?
Wernert said that next year he’d like to see industrial technology students even more involved running this career fair, especially in the area of getting on the phone and inviting local vendors and businesses.
