Edgar County Coroner Scott Barrett has released the name of a man whose body was found along a county road. The coroner says the victim is 34-year-old Dakota J. Gibson of Paris.
Edgar County Sheriff’s Police responded to a call shortly before 8:30 Saturday night saying a body had been found along East 1200th Road, about a mile east of Illinois route one. A woman told authorities she was driving along the road when she discovered the body lying in the roadway.
Sheriff’s Police and the Edgar County Coroner say evidence at the scene shows Mr. Gibson was walking west on East 1200th Road when he was struck by a vehicle from behind. The vehicle that struck him left the scene.
The Edgar County Sheriff’s Department requested assistance from Illinois State Police and the Coroner as the investigation into the incident continues. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
