DANVILLE — As demolition continues of the former Vermilion County Courthouse Annex, questions popped up on social media over the weekend about records remaining in the building.
Some paper records were found floating around the site and downtown, having names, addresses, Social Security numbers, birth dates and other information on them, local residents reported.
Vermilion County Board Chairman Steve Miller said he was notified Friday of some supervisor of assessment records coming from the demolition site.
Miller said he had no idea about the records, due to county board chairman changes with the project.
He said when the county moved out of the annex in 2017, county assessor Matt Long’s office had certain records no longer of use, such as tax bill freezes, and there was no need to move them to the county’s new home at the Joseph G. Cannon Building.
