DANVILLE — With the results of this month’s consolidated election now certified, an incoming Danville school board member is questioning the legality of any meetings that take place before the new group is sworn in, including a special meeting set for tonight to review student discipline cases.
Incoming board member Christopher Easton said he has emailed the local Regional Board of Education and Illinois State Board of Education about with his concerns.
“This appears to be in violation of (Illinois School Code) 105 ILCS 5/10-16 and undermines the democratic process,” he wrote. “Once the election is certified, the new members must be seated at the next meeting. A special meeting with the old board cannot lawfully proceed as if certification hasn’t happened.
