On Wednesday, April 16, 0225, Danville Firefighters received a one-day training course on the technical use of thermal imaging cameras. Firefighters’ thermal imaging training equips them with the skills to effectively use thermal cameras to detect heat signatures, locate victims, and navigate smoke-filled environments more safely and efficiently.
The training was completed by Andy Starnes. Starnes is a retired Battalion Chief and the founder of Insight Fire Training LLC, a globally recognized organization specializing in thermal imaging and tactical fire training. With over three decades of experience in the fire service, including 25 years as a career firefighter, Starnes has become a leading expert in thermal imaging technology and its application in firefighting. He developed the world’s first thermography-based collegiate certification for firefighters. Starnes has trained firefighters in over 20 countries, focusing on enhancing situational awareness and safety on the fireground. Beyond his technical expertise, he is dedicated to supporting behavioral health initiatives within the fire service.
