Numbers released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security are showing a solid improvement from February to March, as they also did from January to February.
Unemployment in Vermilion County showed a drop from 5.8% in February to 5.0% in March. Vermilion County’s rate came in at 5.7% in March of 2024.
For the City of Danville, unemployment fell from 6.3% in February to 5.6% in March. Danville stood at 6.6% back in March of 2024.
However, also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment showed a drop of 700 jobs from March of 2024 to March of 2025; with the current total of non-farm jobs coming in at 25,450.
In looking at specific categories, employment increased in Private Education – Health Service by 375 jobs, in Leisure and Hospitality by 100 jobs; along with a 50 job increase in Financial Activities, and increases of 25 in both Natural Resources and Mining and Other Services.
Meanwhile, there were drops of 425 jobs in Trade-Transportation-Utilities, 275 in Manufacturing, 225 in Government, 175 in both Professional – Business Services and Construction.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
