DANVILLE — Children’s Dyslexia Center of East Central Illinois Director Julie Boersma said the center is gearing up for its annual dinner fundraiser on Monday and a next tutor training class in June.
The dyslexia center, 109 W. North St., Danville, will be hosting its annual Chicken and Noodle Dinner from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday. The cost is $12 for adults and $5 for children age 6 and under.
Boersma said proceeds help support center operations.
“Once accepted in the program students in grades 1-12 receive tutoring twice a week for approximately two years. There is no charge for the tutoring,” according to Boersma.
“Tutor training is also a feature of our program. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in any field. Requirements include 60 hours of classroom lecture and discussion and 100 hours of supervised tutoring,” says Boersma.
A Practitioner 1 class will begin on June 16. This course is required to become a tutor at the center.
