The Danville Fire Department will be hosting a live fire training exercise utilizing an acquired residential structure on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, and Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 27 N. Jefferson Street in Danville. Areas affected may include the intersections of Bluff and Bridge Streets on Jefferson Street.
The training burns are scheduled to begin at 8:00 am and will conclude by 5:00 pm each day.
The acquired structure burn is part of a series of realistic, hands-on training scenarios designed to enhance firefighter safety, improve tactical skills, and ensure the highest level of service to the community. Firefighters will train in fire behavior, interior fire attack, ventilation techniques, search and rescue operations. The Champaign and Urbana Fire Departments will also be participating in the training, being provided by West Coast Fire Training.
The training provides our personnel with the opportunity to experience fire conditions in a controlled setting, which better prepares them for real emergencies while also ensuring public and firefighter safety.
The Danville Fire Department is coordinating closely with city officials and public safety partners to minimize any disruptions to the area. Residents in the area may see smoke or flames during the exercise. All activities will be conducted in accordance with the 1403 guidelines of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to ensure safety and environmental compliance.
Community members are encouraged to avoid the training area during the exercise. Traffic control measures will be in place, and signage will be posted.
