DANVILLE — Several years in the making, the Vermilion County Trail Alliance announced construction has finally started on a new multi-use trail system at Harrison Park West.
Phase 1 of the project kicked off Friday and is scheduled to be complete within the next few weeks.
Key stakeholders and interested community members are encouraged to attend an informal “soft open” and site tour at 2 p.m. Sunday, conditions permitting. The site is located at 19149 Woodbury Hill Road, adjacent to Harrison Park Golf Course and the North Fork River.
Sunday’s event will celebrate the completion of the first trail, “Liftoff.”
Vermilion County Trail Alliance President Drew Landis said it is a bike-optimized gravity-flow trail classed at a “blue” level, widely known in mountain-biking circles to mean a trail designed for riders of intermediate experience and above.
