DANVILLE — As airplanes taxi and take off at the Vermilion Regional Airport, a five-person restoration crew is hard at work just a few hangars away restoring planes of the past.
It’s quite a sight to walk around Midwest Aero Restorations’ hangars, packed with old warplanes being restored at the airport just outside of Danville.
Whether you’re a plane enthusiast or don’t know the first thing about aircraft, what Midwest founder Mike Vadeboncoeur and his crew do is pretty cool.
“The airplanes are great and they’re neat, but you know, the customers we build them for is really what’s special because we get a good relationship going with the customer over several years, and it’s about the people, which is neat,” Vadeboncoeur said.
The airplanes can change hands, and Vadeboncoeur said he hopes they take care of them the same way, and most do.
