THE FOLLOWING IS A CITY OF DANVILLE RELEASE
ABOVE: The north side of Bresee Tower, previously connected to Vermilion County Court Annex Building.
The City of Danville would like to inform the public that road and sidewalk closures for the external demolition on the northwest corner of Vermilion and Main Streets (Bresee Tower) will begin Tuesday, May 6, 2025, with Phase 2 being the demolition Bresee Tower Building.
On Tuesday through Thursday, May 6-8, final preparations and site testing will be performed. External Demolition of Bresee Tower is expected to begin between the afternoon of Thursday, May 8, and Friday, May 9. All schedules are tentative, and demolition will not begin until all site preparation and safety protocols are in place.
Beginning Tuesday, May 6, 2025, ALL traffic lanes and sidewalks on the south side of the Bresee Tower Building on Main St. will be closed to both motorists and pedestrians due to the demolition of the Bresee Tower Building. This closure is expected to last an extended period. With the unknowns currently present for Bresee Tower, an exact end date for this closure is unknown.
However, the current estimated time frame is multiple months.
Detour route signage will be posted for all motorists traveling on Main Street in both directions.
Motorists are encouraged to expect delays when traveling through this detour route and plan accordingly.
During this road closure, the Courthouse will remain open and function normally, and all cases will be heard as scheduled. During this closure, it is suggested that all Courthouse visitors adjust their arrival times to accommodate the expected delays and congestion.
Access to all downtown businesses is planned to remain open through the entirety of this project. Please see the attached “Downtown Demolition Phase 2 Road and Sidewalk Closure Map” for closure details.
Further communications and updates regarding changes in closures and/or future closures will be publicized as the demolition proceeds. The City of Danville thanks Vermilion County Courthouse employees and patrons, visitors, residents, and business owners in the downtown area for their patience as the demolition project continues.
