DANVILLE — The about 12,200 vehicles that pass by Bresee Tower on Main Street each day will have to take a detour for the next couple of months, as demolition of the historic 12-story structure is expected to start this week.
City officials said beginning Tuesday, all lanes of Main Street and the sidewalk on the north side of the street next to the tower will be closed for Phase 2 of demolition.
Officials said final preparations and site testing will be performed Tuesday through Thursday, and external demolition of the tower is tentatively expected to begin between Thursday afternoon and Friday. The closures are expected to last for as long as two months.
