The deadline is drawing near if you want to honor someone along this year’s Rotary Memorial Way in Danville. Monday, May 19th is the last day you can purchase flag sponsorships.
Each year the Danville Rotary Club lines North Vermilion Street with hundreds of American Flags over the Memorial Day weekend. (The photo above is from last year.) The flags cost $5 each which allows sponsors to honor those who served or are serving in the military, or other loved ones.
Cards are placed on the flagpoles with information noting the branch of service and any awards the person received, such as a Purple Heart or Bronze Star. Anyone can be recognized.
(In the photo, Ron Bolser, curator at the Vermilion County War Museum, looks at some of the cards that are to be attached to the flagpoles.) Proceeds from Rotary Memorial Way support the Vermilion County War Museum, Veterans at the Danville VA Illiana Health Care System, and other community projects.
If you would like to sponsor one or more flags visit www.rotaryflag.com or stop by the Vermilion County War Museum. The War Museum is open from noon until 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday, and 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
The cost is $5 for each flag or $100 for a Star Level sponsorship in which 20 flags will be placed along the route. Or Corporate/Company sponsorships as Freedom Level sponsors get 100 flags placed along the route.
