Danville Police are continuing their investigation into the shooting deaths of two people Friday evening in the 200 block of Grace Street. Deputy Police Chief Joshua Webb says officers responded to the area on a report of shots fired just before 6:00 p.m. When they arrived they found a 32-year-old Danville woman lying in the front yard of a home with apparent gunshot wounds. The woman was taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Deputy Chief Webb says officers spoke to witnesses who had heard gunshots and then observed a man standing next to the victim while holding a handgun. The suspect went inside the residence, according to a police news release. Officers tried to contact the suspect, but their efforts were not successful. The Danville Police Emergency Response Unit (ERU) was then called to the scene and officers made entry into the residence. Once inside, ERU members located a 60-year-old Danville man who was dead with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The names of the victims were being withheld pending notification of relatives by the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office. Webb adds the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit and Vermilion County Coroner’s Office are assisting Danville Police in the investigation. He says the investigation continues and that no other information is being released at this time.
Meanwhile, anyone who has information which might assist authorities in this case is asked to call Danville Police at (217) 431-2250. Or you can call Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at (217) 446-TIPS.
