THE FOLLOWING RELEASE IS FROM CONGRESSWOMAN MARY MILLER’S OFFICE
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Mary Miller (IL-15) has secured a proposal in the House Agriculture Committee reconciliation text that would restrict eligibility for food stamps (SNAP) to only U.S.-born or naturalized citizens and legal permanent residents (LPRs), also known as green card holders.
Currently, several categories of non-citizens are eligible to receive SNAP benefits. Under Congresswoman Miller’s measure, these loopholes would be closed, ensuring that SNAP prioritizes American citizens and legal immigrants. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has estimated that this proposal could save taxpayers up to $8 billion over the next decade.
“Taxpayer-funded benefits like SNAP are intended for Americans in need, not foreigners who break the law to enter this country,” said Congresswoman Mary Miller. “That’s why I fought to include my proposal in the Agriculture Committee’s reconciliation plan, saving taxpayers up to $8 billion over the next decade and reversing Biden’s unlawful handouts given to millions of illegal aliens. I appreciate my colleagues on the Committee for working with me to include this critical reform in President Trump’s One Big, Beautiful Bill.”
In February, President Donald Trump issued an executive order to bar illegal aliens from accessing taxpayer-funded benefits, underscoring the importance of Congresswoman Miller’s proposal.
